What does "self-hosting" mean?
Hosting the services we need by ourselves. Like GNU does with
ftp.gnu.org, Savannah,
bugs.gnu.org,
audio-video.gnu.org, etc.
To a large extent we can run our services on FOSS.
In practice Gitlab is usable service even if given a "C" grade on a
recent evaluation.
That is something we could work with Gitlab on.
To me that’s a red line,
gitlab.com is pretty bad.
Instead I would either self-host or use free-software friendly services
like sr.ht, OpenDev, or the other examples mentioned in this thread.
My expectation at this point is that GNU packages will find homes
for
themselves in places that meet their needs.
A single hosting repository is not needed.
It’s not “needed”, it’s just nice to have if those packages are part of
the same “project”.
