After the recent fiasco, trying to claim the GNU brand seems a
bit
hopeless. Finding a different name seems more feasible at this
point.
I consider this to be the next and last step.
Claiming the GNU brand as maintainers and contributors of some of
the most active packages in GNU seems to me entirely justified.
With the GNU brand comes the inherited association of software
that aims to guarantee the users’ freedoms. This, to me, sems to
be a valuable association to hold on to.
The close link between GNU and rms (approaching identity) is very
unfortunate (where he is both leader of GNU and not at all
involved at the same time, dependent on which talking point is
more effective), but I don’t think it should define us or be the
sole motivator to action.
