Hi Mark,
Mark Galassi <mark(a)galassi.org> skribis:
A very good piece of advice given was:
"Define your governance before you make any significant decisions.
Otherwise those decisions will come from the early volunteers instead
of from the accepted governing body.
Indeed.
Thanks for the historical perspective on the creation of the GNOME
Foundation. It’s an eye-opener for me that GNOME folks were already
raising issues we’re still talking about today.
Here are the links to Gnome prehistory:
I found them super interesting and relevant because GNOME is very
similar to GNU: wrt. to membership, to how to relates to software
projects, and so on.
This one is particularly clear.
Super insightful.
How was the initial board was designated? I didn’t see it.
There are things in the charter we would want to discuss; for instance,
I’m not comfortable with the reference to “meritocracy” nor with the
insistence on corporate involvement.
There are also two open questions for the Assembly: do we want to be
“hosted” by an existing US fiscal sponsor? If not, in which
jurisdiction should the Assembly be incorporated?
Thanks a lot for your guidance!
Ludo’.
